The work's composition is defined by an asymmetrical balance, where broad, translucent washes of teal and pale green are layered over a textured, off-white ground, creating a sense of depth and movement reminiscent of underwater light filtering through water. Vess employs a restrained, sparse line density, allowing the negative space to become an active element of the composition, enhancing its meditative quality. The color palette, a harmonious blend of cool teals and soft greens, is applied with a technique that emphasizes translucency and subtle gradations, resulting in a visual effect that is both serene and richly textured. The piece is situated within the broader tradition of abstract art that seeks to evoke natural phenomena and emotional states through non-representational forms, aligning it with the work of artists like Helen Frankenthaler and Mark Rothko, while simultaneously offering a distinctly modern, minimalist interpretation. Its interpretive significance lies in its ability to transform the canvas into a contemplative space, inviting the viewer to engage with the interplay of color, light, and form on a deeply personal level.

For more art by June Erica Vess click here.

Decorus Art is an authorized licensee of Wild Apple Graphics.
