The work’s composition is built upon an asymmetrical balance, where broad, gestural strokes of mauve and teal intersect with delicate, linear accents, creating a visual rhythm that mimics the organic movement of flora. Vess employs a palette of soft, desaturated tones—primarily muted mauve and tranquil teal—accentuated by warm gold highlights, which together generate a harmonious and contemplative atmosphere. The technique, characterized by layered, translucent washes and visible brushwork, emphasizes the materiality of paint and the passage of time, aligning the piece with the expressive qualities of post-war American abstraction. While rooted in the tradition of painterly abstraction, Vess's work diverges by prioritizing emotional subtlety over bold gesture, evoking a sense of quiet introspection. The interplay of negative space and form suggests a modernist sensibility, yet the organic motifs ground the piece in a timeless celebration of natural beauty. This work is not merely decorative; it is a meditation on the quiet elegance of the natural world, rendered through a sophisticated, contemporary lens that bridges the gap between historical abstraction and current design sensibilities.

For more art by June Erica Vess click here.

Decorus Art is an authorized licensee of Wild Apple Graphics.
