Art Historian's Take
Aledanda — "Looking Up I BW Crop" is a compelling example of contemporary landscape photography that masterfully engages with the traditions of both modernist abstraction and the poetic naturalism of early 20th-century pictorialism. The work's radical upward perspective, or 'worm's-eye view,' immediately situates it within a lineage of artists who sought to reframe the mundane, transforming the familiar into the sublime. This compositional choice, which emphasizes the branching structure of the trees against the sky, echoes the geometric explorations of modernist photographers like Paul Strand, yet it eschews the overt formalism of that movement for a more organic, narrative-driven approach. The visual structure is defined by a powerful interplay of positive and negative space; the dense, dark trunks and limbs create a dynamic, almost architectural grid that contrasts with the softer, more diffuse textures of the sky and foliage. This creates a sense of depth and complexity that is both visually arresting and intellectually engaging. The monochromatic palette is not merely a stylistic choice but a critical element of the work's interpretive significance. By stripping away color, the artist forces the viewer to engage with the fundamental qualities of form, texture, and light. The high contrast between the deep blacks of the tree trunks and the bright whites of the sky creates a dramatic, almost theatrical effect, while the subtle gradations of gray in the foliage and clouds lend a sense of atmospheric realism. This technique allows for a nuanced exploration of the natural world, highlighting the intricate patterns and rhythms of the forest canopy. The work can be situated within the broader tradition of nature photography that seeks to capture not just the appearance of a place, but its essence and emotional resonance. In this context, "Looking Up I BW Crop" transcends simple documentation to become a meditative reflection on the relationship between humanity and the natural environment, inviting the viewer to pause and appreciate the quiet, complex beauty of the world above.

Love the artwork

The colors are great for our room. We needed something with the dark teal color. Love the artwork. The artwork however was almost ruined. The delivery person put it out on front stoop in the pouring rain. I would suggest that Decorus put the tube into sealed plastic before inserting into the shipping box.

Hi Deborah,

Thank you for the feedback, we really appreciate it—and I’m glad to hear the artwork and colors worked well for your space.

I’m sorry to hear about the delivery experience, that’s always frustrating when carriers leave packages exposed like that.

Since your order and your feedback, we took a big look at how we were packaging prints and ran with your feedback. Since the end of last year we all prints are now rolled and placed inside a protective plastic sleeve before going into the tube, which is then placed in the box, which helps prevent issues like moisture exposure during transit.

We appreciate you calling that out, it’s exactly the kind of feedback that helps us improve.

Cheers,
Shane

FAQ, shipping, and expectation setting

High-converting pages remove uncertainty before it becomes a support ticket.

How will my print arrive?

Your print arrives unframed and unstretched, rolled in a protective tube. No frame, no stretcher bars, no mounting -- just the printed material. You choose how to finish it.

Does this come framed or stretched?

No. Every print ships unframed and unstretched, rolled in a tube. This is the print only -- you take it to a local frame shop, stretch it yourself, or have your designer install it however you like.

Does your canvas prints come with a bleed for stretching?

Yes, by default all Canvas Prints come standard with a 3" mirrored bleed.

Do you produce this yourselves?

Yes. Every print is produced in-house at our studio in Sarasota, Florida.

What is the difference between materials?

Poster is smooth and cost-efficient, fine art is the most elevated paper choice with rich detail, and canvas adds textural softness and painterly depth. All three ship unframed and unstretched.

Do you do custom sizes?

Yes, we do custom sizes. Please send your part number and the custom size and substrate you are looking to have printed and we can quote you the price or build you a draft order. Please send inquiries to info@decorus.art

Do you modify or crop images?

Do you need us to alter an image ratio, artist signature, change color, or other image manipulation? There is a flat $25 design fee. If the image ratio is staying the same and you just need a size not listed, please email us at info@decorus.art or tell us in chat and we can add that option to our website. There is no charge for the same ratio in a size not listed.

What is your return policy?

All sales are final due to the nature of print on demand. However, we do accept returns in cases of manufacturing defects or delivery of the wrong item. Please contact us immediately if you receive a defective or incorrect item.

What other sizes are available for a print?

To see other sizes we are capable of printing while matching the original ratio, please use our Image Aspect Calculator and plug in the original size to show other options which may not be listed.
