Artwork Description
Reproduction of Gerbera Glow II by Carol Rowan
Carol Rowan — "Gerbera Glow II" is a compelling example of contemporary botanical art that transcends mere representation to engage with the expressive potential of color and texture. Executed in a painterly style that evokes the immediacy of pastel and soft oil techniques, the work aligns with the broader tradition of modernist floral studies, where the focus shifts from precise botanical accuracy to the emotional resonance of the subject. The composition is deliberately centered, drawing the viewer's eye to the interplay between the dominant crimson and golden-yellow blooms, which are rendered with thick, impasto-like applications that create a tactile quality. This emphasis on materiality and surface texture places the work within the lineage of late 20th-century painterly abstraction, where the medium itself becomes a subject of contemplation. The use of a dark, atmospheric background serves to isolate the flowers, amplifying their vibrancy and creating a dramatic contrast that heightens the visual impact. This interplay of light and shadow, combined with the rich, saturated hues, evokes a sense of warmth and vitality that is both immediate and deeply affecting. The work's significance lies in its ability to transform a familiar floral motif into a powerful visual statement, demonstrating Rowan's mastery in using color and form to convey a profound sense of natural beauty and emotional energy. For more art by Carol Rowan click here.
