Art Historian's Take
Wild Apple Portfolio — "Travel Poster IV". This piece exemplifies the enduring appeal of mid-20th-century travel poster design, a genre that emerged as a distinct visual art form during the golden age of rail and air travel. The artwork aligns with the tradition of graphic design movements such as Art Deco and Modernism, characterized by bold typography, simplified forms, and a vibrant, limited palette. The composition employs a centered, symmetrical structure that draws the viewer's eye directly to the architectural centerpiece, the Grand Hotel de la Ville, emphasizing its grandeur and prominence. The use of flat, saturated color blocks—teal, saffron, and a warm ochre—creates a high-contrast visual impact that is both eye-catching and memorable, a hallmark of commercial graphic design intended for mass dissemination. The artist masterfully balances representational detail with stylized abstraction, rendering the building with sufficient clarity to be recognizable while employing a simplified, illustrative approach that enhances its graphic quality. This approach departs from the more literal representation of earlier travel imagery, instead embracing a modernist aesthetic that prioritizes visual communication and emotional resonance over photographic accuracy. The work is situated within the broader context of 20th-century graphic design, where artists like Henryk Tomaszewski and A.M. Cassandre pioneered a style that fused artistic expression with commercial utility. Its interpretive significance lies in its ability to evoke a sense of place and time, transforming a specific location into a powerful symbol of romance, adventure, and cultural exchange. The piece's visual power is derived not from complex technique, but from its clarity of message and its ability to capture the spirit of an era, making it a compelling artifact of both design history and cultural memory.

Love the artwork

The colors are great for our room. We needed something with the dark teal color. Love the artwork. The artwork however was almost ruined. The delivery person put it out on front stoop in the pouring rain. I would suggest that Decorus put the tube into sealed plastic before inserting into the shipping box.

Hi Deborah,

Thank you for the feedback, we really appreciate it—and I’m glad to hear the artwork and colors worked well for your space.

I’m sorry to hear about the delivery experience, that’s always frustrating when carriers leave packages exposed like that.

Since your order and your feedback, we took a big look at how we were packaging prints and ran with your feedback. Since the end of last year we all prints are now rolled and placed inside a protective plastic sleeve before going into the tube, which is then placed in the box, which helps prevent issues like moisture exposure during transit.

We appreciate you calling that out, it’s exactly the kind of feedback that helps us improve.

Cheers,
Shane

FAQ, shipping, and expectation setting

High-converting pages remove uncertainty before it becomes a support ticket.

How will my print arrive?

Your print arrives unframed and unstretched, rolled in a protective tube. No frame, no stretcher bars, no mounting -- just the printed material. You choose how to finish it.

Does this come framed or stretched?

No. Every print ships unframed and unstretched, rolled in a tube. This is the print only -- you take it to a local frame shop, stretch it yourself, or have your designer install it however you like.

Does your canvas prints come with a bleed for stretching?

Yes, by default all Canvas Prints come standard with a 3" mirrored bleed.

Do you produce this yourselves?

Yes. Every print is produced in-house at our studio in Sarasota, Florida.

What is the difference between materials?

Poster is smooth and cost-efficient, fine art is the most elevated paper choice with rich detail, and canvas adds textural softness and painterly depth. All three ship unframed and unstretched.

Do you do custom sizes?

Yes, we do custom sizes. Please send your part number and the custom size and substrate you are looking to have printed and we can quote you the price or build you a draft order. Please send inquiries to info@decorus.art

Do you modify or crop images?

Do you need us to alter an image ratio, artist signature, change color, or other image manipulation? There is a flat $25 design fee. If the image ratio is staying the same and you just need a size not listed, please email us at info@decorus.art or tell us in chat and we can add that option to our website. There is no charge for the same ratio in a size not listed.

What is your return policy?

All sales are final due to the nature of print on demand. However, we do accept returns in cases of manufacturing defects or delivery of the wrong item. Please contact us immediately if you receive a defective or incorrect item.

What other sizes are available for a print?

To see other sizes we are capable of printing while matching the original ratio, please use our Image Aspect Calculator and plug in the original size to show other options which may not be listed.
