Art Historian's Take
Anne Tavoletti — "Strike a Paws VII" is a compelling example of contemporary figurative illustration that synthesizes the expressive potential of watercolor with the precision of line art. The work aligns with a broader tradition of modern animal portraiture, where the subject is rendered not for its literal accuracy but for its emotional resonance. Tavoletti’s technique, characterized by loose, calligraphic strokes and a restrained palette of earthy tones, evokes a sense of immediacy and intimacy, reminiscent of 20th-century illustrative traditions while maintaining a distinctly contemporary sensibility. The composition is carefully balanced, with the dog’s head positioned as the primary focal point, its large, expressive eyes drawing the viewer into a direct, soulful engagement. The use of negative space is deliberate, allowing the viewer’s attention to be drawn to the subject’s form and the subtle interplay of light and shadow across its fur. The color palette, dominated by warm beiges and browns with stark black accents, creates a harmonious yet high-contrast visual field that is both soothing and visually arresting. The integration of the handwritten text, 'Dogs leave paw prints on your heart,' is not merely decorative but serves as a thematic anchor, transforming the piece from a mere depiction into a poignant narrative. This work is situated within the tradition of modern illustrative art that values accessibility and emotional connection, bridging the gap between fine art and popular culture. Its interpretive significance lies in its ability to capture the universal sentiment of affection for pets, a theme that resonates across cultures and generations. The artwork’s visual appeal is enhanced by its textural quality, which suggests the tactile nature of the medium and invites a closer, more contemplative viewing. In its understated elegance, "Strike a Paws VII" exemplifies how contemporary artists can use simple means to evoke profound emotional responses, making it a significant contribution to the genre of modern animal portraiture.

Great quality prints

I took a chance and ordered and I’m glad I did. The prints arrived quickly and were well packaged, no damage. The colors and quality of paper look better than expected. I’m very satisfied and would order again. Thank you for great customer service.

Love the artwork

The colors are great for our room. We needed something with the dark teal color. Love the artwork. The artwork however was almost ruined. The delivery person put it out on front stoop in the pouring rain. I would suggest that Decorus put the tube into sealed plastic before inserting into the shipping box.

Hi Deborah,

Thank you for the feedback, we really appreciate it—and I’m glad to hear the artwork and colors worked well for your space.

I’m sorry to hear about the delivery experience, that’s always frustrating when carriers leave packages exposed like that.

Since your order and your feedback, we took a big look at how we were packaging prints and ran with your feedback. Since the end of last year we all prints are now rolled and placed inside a protective plastic sleeve before going into the tube, which is then placed in the box, which helps prevent issues like moisture exposure during transit.

We appreciate you calling that out, it’s exactly the kind of feedback that helps us improve.

Cheers,
Shane

FAQ, shipping, and expectation setting

High-converting pages remove uncertainty before it becomes a support ticket.

How will my print arrive?

Your print arrives unframed and unstretched, rolled in a protective tube. No frame, no stretcher bars, no mounting -- just the printed material. You choose how to finish it.

Does this come framed or stretched?

No. Every print ships unframed and unstretched, rolled in a tube. This is the print only -- you take it to a local frame shop, stretch it yourself, or have your designer install it however you like.

Does your canvas prints come with a bleed for stretching?

Yes, by default all Canvas Prints come standard with a 3" mirrored bleed.

Do you produce this yourselves?

Yes. Every print is produced in-house at our studio in Sarasota, Florida.

What is the difference between materials?

Poster is smooth and cost-efficient, fine art is the most elevated paper choice with rich detail, and canvas adds textural softness and painterly depth. All three ship unframed and unstretched.

Do you do custom sizes?

Yes, we do custom sizes. Please send your part number and the custom size and substrate you are looking to have printed and we can quote you the price or build you a draft order. Please send inquiries to info@decorus.art

Do you modify or crop images?

Do you need us to alter an image ratio, artist signature, change color, or other image manipulation? There is a flat $25 design fee. If the image ratio is staying the same and you just need a size not listed, please email us at info@decorus.art or tell us in chat and we can add that option to our website. There is no charge for the same ratio in a size not listed.

What is your return policy?

All sales are final due to the nature of print on demand. However, we do accept returns in cases of manufacturing defects or delivery of the wrong item. Please contact us immediately if you receive a defective or incorrect item.

What other sizes are available for a print?

To see other sizes we are capable of printing while matching the original ratio, please use our Image Aspect Calculator and plug in the original size to show other options which may not be listed.
