Artwork Description
Reproduction of Teal Prism Valley II by June Erica Vess
"Teal Prism Valley II" by June Erica Vess is a compelling example of contemporary abstract expressionism, rendered with a lyrical sensitivity to color, movement, and atmospheric depth. The work unfolds as a dynamic interplay between the luminous and the shadowed, employing a richly stratified palette dominated by varying hues of teal, aquamarine, and deep indigo, which are punctuated by delicate accents of pale yellow, soft pink, and olive green. These colors are not applied with literal precision but rather in broad, gestural strokes and layered impasto, evoking a sense of fluid motion and natural transformation. The composition suggests a landscape in flux—perhaps a valley reflected in water, or a sky captured in the wake of a passing storm—where light refracts through shifting forms, creating an impression of prismatic dispersion. Vess masterfully manipulates the canvas to simulate the interplay of light and shadow, with thick, textured passages suggesting the weight of overcast skies and the translucent glimmer of light breaking through. The work's spatial ambiguity allows for multiple readings, aligning it with the tradition of post-war abstract expressionism while infusing it with a distinctly modern, atmospheric sensibility. As a reproduction print, "Teal Prism Valley II" captures the tactile energy and chromatic complexity of the original, translating its emotional resonance into a format that invites contemplation and immersion. This piece may be classified within the broader category of contemporary abstract landscape painting, where natural phenomena are interpreted through an expressive, non-representational lens. For more art by June Erica Vess click here.
